We Are a Group of Young People Pursuing the Ultimate Outdoor Light and Shadow - AdventureX AX

We are a group of young Chinese people living around the world.

United by a shared passion, six landscape photographers and one professional explorer formed the outdoor photography team Adventure X (极影), dedicated to promoting the spirit of outdoor exploration and spreading the joy of landscape photography.

There is great beauty between heaven and earth — every mountain and river is a world of its own. In photography, even the most perfect technique is merely a means to achieve a goal. For us — the AdventureX AX team — the joy of photography lies more in the process of trekking, shooting, and sharing.

The video below records the wonderful images from our journey of exploration. Here we'd also like to particularly thank our seniors Marc Adamus, Max Rive, and others for their blessings and encouragement in the video.

The essence of our team's name — Adventure X (极影) — lies in the character "极" (extreme). "极" represents our dreams and pursuits: Push the Limits, Ultimate Imagery, and Geek Sharing.

Push the Limits

"The world's most majestic, marvelous and extraordinary sights often lie in perilous and distant places rarely reached by man." The original intent behind founding AdventureX AX arose precisely from the convergence of our understanding of landscape photography and the members' outdoor experiences.

The gestation of every member's photograph isn't the few seconds or fractions of a second needed for the exposure, but the challenge to one's own limits along the long journey before arriving at the location and pressing the shutter.

I'm AdventureX AX photographer - Weihao Pan (潘玮浩)

I've loved nature and the outdoors since childhood. Since 2012, I've been photographing diverse landscapes in the United States and Canada, with my footsteps spanning coasts and deserts, temperate rainforests, canyon wildernesses, and snow mountains and lakes. I'm now focusing on expedition photography in Tibet, Xinjiang, and other parts of China.

Through these works, I want to express my personal emotions and perspectives on the places I've visited, and also hope to show everyone the wondrous, beautiful, and powerful side of the planet we live on. My work has appeared in professional magazines such as Landscape Photography Magazine, Outdoor Photographer Magazine, China National Travel (中国国家旅游), and Popular Photography (摄影之友).

I'm AdventureX AX's chief outdoor technical advisor: Hans (汗斯)

I'm Hans (汗斯), a free climber and alpine photographer. I'm also a co-founder of Tibet Manfeng Expedition, initiator of the Thousand-Day Peak-Seeking Project, and a nominee for the 9th Golden Rhino Best Outdoor Imagery. I've long contributed to magazines such as Outdoor Exploration (户外探险杂志), Chinese National Geography (中国国家地理), Traveler (旅行家), and New Traveler (新旅行). I've led teams many times on routes through the Himalayas, the Karakoram, and Kashmir. Not long ago, I summited Nun Peak, the highest peak in the Zanskar Valley of Indian-administered Kashmir in the Himalayas, becoming the first Chinese person to reach its summit.

Internationally renowned alpine photographer Max Rive: I want to say a few words regarding a new group called Adventure X, who consists of 6 Chinese photographers who want to inspire both Chinese people and everyone outside China to visit the great outdoors In China and the rest of the world. This initiative will encourage and inspire people in China to get out there and create a sense of awareness of the importance of preserving the natural world around us. Translation: I'd like to talk about the newly formed team Adventure X: it's an outdoor photography team of 6 Chinese photographers. They're not only dedicated to inspiring Chinese people to explore the stunning outdoors, but also hope people around the world can appreciate China's natural scenery. Their initiative will encourage and inspire the Chinese to head outdoors and raise awareness of preserving the natural environment around us.

Ultimate Imagery

In the aesthetics of mountains and waters, three essential conditions are emphasized: being there, appreciating, and feeling. The first step is to be physically present in the landscape; the second is to observe with your eyes and mind; the third is to mobilize your entire being to feel it.

From Ladakh in India to K2 in Pakistan, from Alaska in America to Tasmania in Australia, from the Himalayas in Tibet to the Karakoram in Xinjiang — every member of AdventureX chases the most extreme light and shadow in the world with their passion and faith.

I'm AdventureX AX photographer - Miller Yao (姚明来)

I'm used to traveling alone to capture extraordinary landscapes. From casual travel snapshots at first to the rigorous pursuit of perfection now, I hope that through my images you'll feel not only the splendor of nature, but also the heart behind the lens that loves extreme nature and pursues ultimate freedom.

My landscape shooting footprints span more than a dozen Chinese provinces. I've repeatedly explored and shot alone in Sichuan, Yunnan, and Xinjiang — hiking through the rarely visited Tianshan region, camping and waiting on the vast Pamir Plateau, and chasing light and shadow at the freezing Sichuan-Tibet mountain passes.

John Ruskin's famous quote has accompanied me step by step as I climb the steep peaks of nature and landscape photography. Like many others, my original reason for picking up a camera to record scenery was simply to give myself an excuse to travel. Yet this simple motive turned a new page for me.

I once madly chased skies full of red clouds, and was once obsessed with dazzling digital post-processing techniques. The settling of time has freed me from fixating on superficial conditions, methods, and mediums, as I constantly seek forms that can truly express myself. "Ideal truth" is precisely the "truth" in a photographer's heart — one with personality, emotion, and thought.

I'm a nature and landscape photographer and software engineer living in the Seattle area of the United States. There's no need to list where my work has been published or what titles I've held in photography organizations. In this ever-growing "photography circle," superficial things often keep people lingering in the noise of social networks while forgetting the essence of photographic art. I simply want to converse with you through my photos and share my experiences and feelings. If any of them move you or leave a deep impression, that's my greatest success and satisfaction.

The joy of photography lies in deep research — we all love to delve into novel photography techniques and post-processing methods like geeks. But the happiness of photography lies even more in sharing; like geeks, we're happy to share our discoveries and thoughts.

Bringing Western photography techniques to China, taking China's outdoor landscapes to the world, and sharing the beauty of photography with everyone — these are our ideals and pursuits.

I'm AdventureX AX photographer - Thomas Chu (储卫民（Thomas看看世界）)

I'm Thomas Chu Photo — a contracted photographer for Xiaomi and Ctrip, a contributor for Nikon China, and a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. I love outdoor landscape photography, and my footsteps have traced the mountains and lands of Nepal, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Northern Europe, and China's Sichuan, Yunnan, and Tibet. I've hiked and photographed 13 of the world's highest 8,000-meter peaks, and my work has twice been shortlisted for the National Geographic annual photography contest.

I love sharing my photography learning experiences with everyone in the form of articles and videos. Since last year, I've been publishing photography tutorials every week on my official account, Zhihu, and Tuchong. I've now become a Weibo-contracted self-media creator, with over 12 million cumulative reads on my photography tutorials.

I'm AdventureX AX photographer - Fei Shi (史飞)

I once hiked for two and a half months from Chengdu to Lhasa, and also trekked 300 kilometers past the base camps of five 8,000-meter peaks in Pakistan. The farther I walk, the closer I am to home. The farther from people, the closer to the divine. On the road, I constantly shed narrow-mindedness, clear away one-sidedness, abandon arrogance, and submit to nature. Then, I know who I am.

I love outdoor photography not just because it's seen by others as "seeking hardship," but because when I pick up my backpack, my worries gradually get lost along the way. Many loves and hates dissipate, and dissipate again. We walk not just roads and shoot not just landscapes — but a bit of freedom, a bit of dream, a bit of release, a bit of liberation, and a bit of a story that can't be told to others. I also hope to share this dream and story with you.

I'm AdventureX AX photographer - Jo You (周游)

I'm passionate about outdoor exploration and have made distinctive achievements in landscape photography, specializing in seas, snow mountains, and starry skies. Shanghai's Life Weekly once did a themed feature on me titled "The Temperature of Snow Mountains" (《雪山的温度》). Many of my works have been published in national photography magazines, and I've collaborated with national 5A scenic areas like Golden Pebble Beach and numerous equipment manufacturers to shoot photo albums and promotional videos.

Mountains and seas have boundaries, but my heart is boundless. I uphold the philosophy that extreme outdoor travel yields extreme landscape masterpieces, and persist in walking the path of exploration and discovery. I'll regularly share my shooting insights and adventure stories with everyone.
