One article of substance every week, making photography easy to learn
The two things in this world that most awe me are the vast, boundless starry sky and the towering, magnificent snow mountains.
Today's article shows some of the mysterious and beautiful snow mountains Thomas has visited — entering jungles, crossing valleys, and climbing over glaciers.
At the end of the article, 20 HD large-format downloads of snow mountains are provided. Which one do you want to set as your desktop?
Cerro Torre is located near the small town of El Chaltén in Argentina. Though only 3,128 meters high, its needle-like shape makes it stand out among the many surrounding snow mountains.
Qogir Peak, also known as K2, is 8,612 meters above sea level and is the world's second-highest peak. Located in the Karakoram range on the China-Pakistan border, its changeable weather and steep profile make its climbing difficulty and fatality rate far greater than Mount Everest's.
Its 6,286-meter height and almost vertical big wall make the Great Trango Tower one of the world's most challenging peaks.
Machhapuchhre, at 6,997 meters, is located in Nepal's Annapurna range. It got its name because its shape resembles a fish's tail, and it's one of the local sacred mountains.
The Odle peaks are located in Italy's Dolomites. Because of their sharp shapes, Chinese netizens also call them the "knife-back peaks."
Watzmann, at 2,713 meters, is Germany's second-highest peak. The peak sits beside Lake Königssee in the Alps, surrounded by intoxicating pastoral, pasture, and town scenery.
Fitz Roy can be considered the most famous peak in Patagonia. Its 1,951-meter massif rises abruptly from the plains, very spectacular.
The world's highest peak, Mount Everest at 8,848 meters, needs no lengthy introduction. The image was shot when I trekked Nepal's EBC route alone in 2013.
The Trango Towers are located in the Karakoram range bordering Pakistan and China. Their steep profiles and violent winds leave almost no snow accumulating on the peaks.
Standing next to giants, it's hard not to be tall. Nuptse at 7,861 meters sits tightly beside the world's first and fourth highest peaks.
Uli Biaho is a very prominent spire in the Karakoram range. When this image was shot, clouds and mist swirled around, and only the small peaks near Uli Biaho's main peak were captured.
Lhotse is located in the Himalayas on the China-Nepal border, only about 3 kilometers from Mount Everest. It's the world's fourth-highest peak at 8,516 meters. The wall-like formation in the image is Lhotse's south face. Behind the great wall there's another summit — that's Mount Everest.
Ama Dablam is hailed as the most beautiful peak on Nepal's EBC trekking route, at 6,170 meters.
Broad Peak, at 8,051 meters, is the world's twelfth-highest peak and the one in the center of the image below. To the left of Broad Peak is the world's second-highest Qogir Peak (K2); to the right is the world's 17th-highest peak — G4.
Cho Oyu is 8,201 meters above sea level, with relatively gentle slopes, making it easier to climb among 8,000-meter-class snow mountains. Many domestic climbers aiming for Everest use Cho Oyu as their first 8,000-meter snow mountain to climb.
Yangmaiyong means "Manjushri" in Tibetan. It's located in the Yading Scenic Area of Daocheng, Sichuan Province. It's the south peak of the "Three Protectors" snow mountains, at an altitude of 5,958 meters, and ranks first among the "Three Protectors" snow mountains in Buddhism.
The Alps have not only towering snow mountains, but also beautiful forests, meadows, and cabins.
As you drive closer to the old town of Lijiang from afar, you can see the 5,596-meter Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The image was shot at Lijiang's Black Dragon Pool.
Dhaulagiri is located in Nepal in the middle section of the Himalayas, at 8,167 meters, and is the world's seventh-highest peak. "Dhaulagiri" literally means "white mountain"; from a distance, it looks like a giant white pyramid.
Ula Peak is a mysterious peak in the fjords of southern Greenland, rising above the sea almost like a vertical wall.
